Completing your application

Your application is the first step towards securing an interview and therefore should be completed to the highest standard possible.

  • Applications received will be retained by the Shire of Broomehill-Tambellup. Photocopies of your qualifications, certificates and the like should be attached to your application – please do NOT send originals.
  • You should contact your referees for their approval prior to being listed in your curriculum vitae/resume as they may be contacted. It is desirable that one referee be your current or a recent supervisor/manager.

To be considered for the position you must submit the following:

  1. A cover letter outlining your motivation for applying for the position and documenting your ability to meet the position objectives and essential requirements. Please ensure the position title is clearly contained in your cover letter.

Applicants must clearly address the selection criteria for the position you are applying for.  These are outlined in the Position Description contained in the Vacancy Package. 

The selection criteria are the qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities considered necessary to perform the functions of the position.

You should demonstrate your capabilities by providing evidence of how you meet the selection criteria; provide specific details, and where possible, include an indicator of success or a result.

An easy way to do this is to use the STAR model - that is:

Situation: provide a brief outline of situation /setting

Task: outline what you did

Approach: outline how you did it

Result: describe what the outcomes were.

  1. A current resume or curriculum vitae which provides:
    • Relevant personal details (including name, address, phone number, email address)
    • Summary of work experience, including the dates and details of tasks perfumed in each position
    • Education and training relevant to the position
    • Any activities you have undertaken outside of work which are relevant to your application.
  1. A completed application form contained in this Vacancy Package which includes:

The names and contact details of two referees who are able to comment on your work experience.

National Police Clearance / Working with Children Check

Some positions may require applicants to provide a recent National Police Clearance and/or Working with Children Check – please refer to vacancy information.  These will be at the expense of the applicant.

  • The police clearance should have been obtained within the three months prior to applying for or obtaining the position.
