Dog Control

In accordance with the Dog Act 1976, all dogs over the age of three (3) months old are required by State legislation to be microchipped and registered, including all farm dogs. Applications to register your dogs can be obtained from either the Tambellup or Broomehill offices.

Pensioners receive a 50% rebate on the registration fees on production of their concession card.

To register a sterilised dog, a certificate of sterilisation from a vet must be produced.

All dog registrations are due on 31st October in the year of expiry.

The limit of the number of dogs which may be kept on any premises is as follows:

a) Premises within a townsite - 2 dogs over the age of three months and the young of those dogs under that age.

b) Premises outside a townsite - 4 dogs over the age of three months and the young of those dogs under that age.

Compulsory Microchipping of Dogs

All members of the public are advised that from 1 November 2015 it is compulsory for all dogs to be microchipped.

Amendments to the Dog Act 1976 made in November 2013 provided that from 1 November 2015 the owner of a dog that has reached the age of three months must ensure that the dog is microchipped.

A dog is exempt from the microchipping requirement if a veterinarian issues a certificate stating that the implantation of a microchip may adversely affect the health and welfare of the dog.  The certificate cannot apply in respect of a dog that is under three months of age.

When a person registers their dog, they will be required to provide proof that the dog has been microchipped by providing the Shire with the microchip number.
